Happy Disability Pride Month!
The Disability Zebra for the Pride Animal series is finally here! (The series where I take requests and design animals based on flags) I designed this all the way back in March, and thanks to everyone's feedback, I was able to narrow it down! (Special thanks to @yomcloud for a lot of helpful notes :-]c) This will never be perfect, but I've gotten a lot of love and joy from myself and disabled friends seeing this little guy :-]
You can get this guy on Redbubble! For local conventions, I'll be selling this as stickers with the gray outline!
Fun Fact! Zebras are also used as a symbol to represent rare diseases! This is based on the quote "When you hear the sound of hooves, think horses, not zebras." In regards to what doctors should consider when diagnosing a patient. This ends up with many disabled people not getting the right diagnosis, being ignored, or their conditions not being researched enough. All this because something is considered "rare", when in fact people with these disabilities are still large in number, diagnosed or not- a lot of disabled people even feel that their diagnoses may even be more common than we think. Because of this, the animal has been embraced by what doctors may call "medical zebras", now being used to represent many different disabilities considered "rare" such as Ehler's Danlos Syndrome, CACP Syndrome, and many more!
If you are disabled or know someone who is disabled, this pride animal is for you! If you are or know someone who is considered a "medical zebra", I hope this zebra brings you joy!

If anyone wants to draw this guy#ebonytailsart#Added the EDS tag because majority of our friends have it <3 and our partner suggested it#I do not have it but I am hypermobile and a cane user hashtag WIN#BTW the alt text window is so much better post publishing than if you do it before publishing what the hell

@thrones-of-buer submitted: Molting time lapse.
I know this is about the tarantula but shout out to my phone, it was on 10% battery and was recording for an hour into 5%, what a chad, thing was HOT.
Glad your phone didn't explode to get this video! I love watching spiders molt though, what a process. Wish I could do that. Please tell them they're beautiful now! And also they were before. And will always be in the future.

question for people with ehlers danlos:
I have hypermobile kneecaps (patellar maltracking with a shallow knee groove and patella alta) what exercises can I do, at home or at the gym, to keep them from sliding around too much? i cannot attend physical therapy or see a professional again because of money and bad experiences. I've heard outer thigh and hip exercises work well, but what else has helped you?

Fellow chronic pain humans. You ever been in so much pain, that your body doesn’t register it correctly and you just start crying over the smallest thing?
I was trying to cook eggs and have been blocking out the pain in my knee the best I can, I somehow messed up, and they stuck to the bottom of the pan ever so slightly.
Just enough that it made it a bit harder to flip an omelet on half.Something that would normally never bother me, something that I’d be like “Hu guess I didn’t grease it enough this time. Weird.” This time it had me crying. Couldn’t figure out why for a moment, then I noticed how badly I was limping and compensating for my right knee and it clicked.
Is this my new normal?
I had a few cases of breaking down in tears of frustration and pain before my wrist and elbow surgery, but it was so long ago I had forgotten how bad it can be.
I had my MRI today so I really hope it shows something because I’m so sick of this. Part of me thinks it’s just the HEDS causing issues, and the scan won’t show much, but part of me really hopes there’s something there that they can fix.
Chronic pain scale wise I’m a 7/8 out of 10 today. Been living at a 7 most of the week. Before my knee got worse I was at a 2 to 3 daily, sometimes a 4.
This is what I’ve been using to rate my pain
1. Pain barely noticeable
2. Annoying and may have occasional stronger twinges.
3. Pain is noticeable and distracting, however, you can get used to it and adapt.
4. Can be ignored for a perfod of time, but is still distracting.
5. Can't be ignored for more than a few minutes, can manage activities W effort
6. Interferes with normal daily activities. Difficulty concentrating.
7. Dominates your senses and significantly limits your ability to perform normal daily activities or maintain social relationships.
Interferes with sleep.
8. Physical activity is severely limited. Conversing requires great effort.
9. Excruciating pain. Unable to converse. Gryin out and/or moaning uncontrollably.
10. Unspeakable pain. Bedridden and possibly delirious. Very few peopk will ever experience this level of pain.

First day of physical therapy was all right but my knee is gonna murder me if I move it too much.
Had to explain to my PT that my pain tolerance is high so he'll have to tell me when to stop- he was very understanding which is great.
My other knee started hurting during some of the exercises and he seemed to be understanding of that too so I'm pretty grateful. Great PT team :3

Nahhh we're on tumblr, aren't we?
One word: Bottleneck Effect.
you cannot all have been weird little girls btw. I know some of you were mostly normal and are just clout chasing
#anyway when I was very young I never thought I was weird#it's the other kids who thought that way#<-said the girl who almost got ran over by a car#because she got so invested in a worm trying to cross the road#that probably wasn't why other kids didn't want to play with me though#that probably had to do with the fact that I kept tripping over nothing to the point that my knees were constantly bruised#and that I was SO literal and SO rigid about rules-following#that once I got stuck unable to cross a zebra crossing for a full hour until mom came looking for me#(my homeroom teacher told us when a crossing doesn't have a traffic light we should always let the car go first if we saw one oncoming#as a part of basic pedestrian safety thing#and I took that too literally#and every time I let a car pass first#I could technically 'see' another car coming down the road like three blocks away 😂)

Physical Therapist: You've reinjured your knee and hip. Take 6 weeks off of regular activity and just rest.
Me: *grabbing SCUBA gear* Dive in a kelp forest before hiking in a koala reserve? Got it!
PT: No regular activity!
Me: So... snorkeling instead? I can do that.
#physical therapy#eds#ehlers danlos syndrome#ehlers danlos zebra#spoonie#my injuries have injuries#but I've been planning this trip for years#so my knees will just have to take it
